According to a statement from the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), monkeypox was found among children for the first time in the country. It was stated that one of the children is a baby from California and the other is a baby who came to Washington DC but is not a resident of the country.
It was reported that the two cases were unrelated, and that the children were probably infected as a result of domestic transmission. It was emphasized that both of them were in good health and were being treated.
While it was stated that children under the age of 8 are at risk of severe monkeypox virus, more than 2,500 cases have been recorded across the country so far.
