A flood in Fars province in southwestern Iran has claimed several lives. According to a state television channel, there are more than 15 people involved.
The flooding comes after a river overflowed near the town of Estahban due to heavy rainfall, according to local authorities. 55 people are said to have been rescued, but at least six people are still missing.
Meteorologists had warned of possible heavy rainfall throughout the country, which has been severely affected by drought for years. The risks of flooding have also been exacerbated by the extensive construction of both houses and roads near rivers.
In March 2018, another flood in Fars Province caused the death of 44 people.
