Traveling to Bastia for two days, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin begins discussions with local elected officials about the status of the island but also its economic difficulties. This Friday, he announced the strengthening of the judicial means of the island to fight in particular against organized crime. What does this measure provide?

Many more investigators and judicial police officers to serve the magistrates from the start of the school year in September, announced Gérald Darmanin. The Minister justifies this measure because of ” the evolution of crime local to drug trafficking.

The increase in this traffic, he explains, would be linked to the involvement of Corsican criminal groups but also groups from outside, in particular from Marseille. The Minister therefore perceives this development as a tendency for trafficking to be exported to the island.

Five months after the assassination in prison of the independence activist Yvan Colonna, sentenced to life for the assassination of the prefect Erignac, this desire is part of the cycle of consultations between the minister and local elected officials, one of the major issues is the possible autonomy of the island.

Is it possible to link the control of police and justice functions to delocalized powers? On this subject, the Minister is categorical: only reinforced means of the State can prevent the development of this organized crime on the island.

A declaration which does not prevent the autonomist Gilles Simeoni, also president of the Corsican executive council, from ensuring that the question ” with full autonomy of the island would also be discussed with the minister.
