Part 2 is unfortunately almost impossible

Part 2 is unfortunately almost impossible

In 2013, World War Z elevated zombie horror to massive blockbuster levels. It was very well received, and there was always talk of a sequel. In the meantime, however, we must face the truth: World War Z 2 will no longer come. That’s a pity, but too much has happened for that in the meantime this eternal project gone wrong. There is only the slightest chance left – and this has to do with Will Smith.

  • Today is the zombie action with Brad Pitt at 10.30 p.m. at ProSieben.

  • At 3.10 a.m. the repetition follows on the same night.
  • On TV today: That’s what zombie action World War Z with Brad Pitt is all about

Ex-UN employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) is in Philadelphia with his family when all hell breaks loose. What looks like a typical rush hour traffic jam turns out to be Harbinger of the Apocalypse. Hordes of the undead are wreaking havoc on the world as Lane knew it.

It is only with luck that he and his family manage to escape, but shortly after they are rescued by Lane’s former employer, he is faced with a difficult task: if Lane wants his family to be safe in the long term, he must resume his old job and uncover the cause of the catastrophe in a risky mission.

Why World War Z 2 is now very unlikely

The story didn’t seem completely finished back then, zombie stories are never like that. See 28 Days Later and The Walking Dead. Sequel news therefore came up regularly. The box office result of 540.5 million US dollars was very good, but measured against the budget of 200 million US dollars only decent. Which is why Studio Paramount didn’t put all its energy behind another part and first of all waited.

This status basically continues to this day. A sequel was still being developed in 2013, the start year. Since then, however, the film has been moving snail’s pace Ahead. A commitment by JA Bayona as a director was followed by a theatrical release in 2017. Bayona jumped off and star director David Fincher came along, who one would have expected to turn things around. It looked really good for a long time, but then it turned out differently. The theatrical release was only delayed due to a date involvement with Netflix. Then Paramount put the expensive project on hold, probably due to budget problems.

Waiting is as good as pointless: Better give up World War Z 2 with Brad Pitt

But nobody wanted to proclaim a final end for the sequel. That’s now done for a whopping 3 years of radio silence around the project. Since the beginning of February 2019, no one at Paramount has apparently felt responsible for World War Z 2. David Fincher has moved on. Brad Pitt has his hands full too, playing a parody of his WWZ role.

Officially there is still no clear commitment that World War Z 2 will not come. It would be easier for all of us who want to know what’s next for Brad Pitt’s Gerry Lane and his iconic bandana.

The tiny chance of World War Z 2 is also related to Will Smith

In early 2022, the sequel to I Am Legend was announced. Which no one expected either. I Am Legend and World War Z touched on a similar recipe: mega-star in an apocalyptic setting, a mix of horror, sci-fi and action. This means that if I Am Legend 2 is really successful, World War 2 will also be interesting for studios again. That’s how it works sometimes in the film industry.
