Among the successful companies was the electric car manufacturer Tesla, which submitted an interim report that was better than expected. Among other things, the report showed that Tesla sold over 75 percent of its bitcoin holdings, which generated an income of $936 million. The reward came in the form of a share rise of 9.7 percent.
On the downside, several of the major airlines presented weak reports. United Airlines dived 10.5 percent and American Airlines fell 7.7 percent.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.5 percent, the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index rose 1.4 percent and the S&P 500 rose 1.0 percent.
