In Tunisia, the Carthage International Festival has been back since July 14. After two years of interruption due to the Covid, the amphitheater vibrates again this summer. Monday, July 18, spectators were numerous for the Tunisian adaptation of Alice in Wonderland as a musical.

On the mythical stage of the Roman theater of Carthage, the characters of Alice in Wonderland follow one another accompanied by the Tunisian Symphony Orchestra. But with a particularity: the rabbit, the queen or Alice herself all speak in Tunisian dialect. The very local adaptation of the tale delights the spectators, including many children, like Lina, admiring Alice: “ Her game was too good, as she played, I liked it. I know the story, but I really liked the comedy. »
The return of a historic festival
His mother Hajer is impressed by the quality of this 100% Tunisian production: “ There is a fantastic note, a somewhat traditional, folkloric note. There is dancing, circus, singing, music : everything was great. »
Samia, who also came with her son, is a regular at the festival: “ Carthage is something historic. It’s simply Tunisia. The Carthage Festival has a special charm. By her side, Haifa, her son’s teacher, loved this children’s show: ” For a children’s show, it’s the first time I’ve come. And I found that extraordinary. This is a good initiative that should be repeated often. »
The Carthage Festival should be in full swing until the end of August.
