The investigation continues into the incident in which 21 young people mysteriously lost their lives in a nightclub in East London, South Africa. In a statement made by Doctor Litha Matiwane, Deputy Director General of Clinical Services at the Eastern Cape Health Department, “Methanol (methyl alcohol) was detected in the bodies of 21 people who lost their lives. However, work continues to analyze uncertain methanol levels to find out the cause of death. Matiwane also said authorities are awaiting the final results of ongoing studies at a lab in Cape Town. Used as a solvent, pesticide, and alternative fuel source alternative, methanol is known as a toxic form of alcohol.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On June 26, 21 teenagers aged 14-20, who had gathered to celebrate the end of the exams, died of an unknown reason at the Enyobeni nightclub in East London, South Africa.
