Authorities in southern China apologize for breaking into the homes of people who have been quarantined with suspected coronary heart disease.

84 homes have been opened for disinfection and to try to find other people who may have been exposed to infection, according to the state newspaper Global Times. The measures have been met with unusually extensive criticism.

The doors were sealed after the intrusion and new locks were installed, according to the newspaper.

The local government apologizes for the violent measures. A committee has been set up to investigate the incidents and “relevant persons” will be punished, according to the authorities.

China continues to adhere to its strict zero covid policy and citizens in various parts of the country are subject to extensive restrictions and mass testing.
