Heat wave in Europe – now the heat is coming to Sweden

Heat wave in Europe now the heat is coming

Published: Just now

In Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom, forest fires, record temperatures and hundreds of deaths are reported.

Sweden has so far been spared, but on Thursday it can be almost 35 degrees hot here as well.

– Right now it looks like the worst heat is gathering in eastern Götaland, says Anna Latvala, meteorologist at Foreca.

On Monday, it is still cool July weather in Sweden. On Tuesday it starts to change, on Wednesday it will be 30 degrees in some places and on Thursday even warmer than that. This is predicted by meteorologist Anna Latvala.

– It may be 33-34 degrees in eastern Götaland on Thursday, but the forecast is still a bit uncertain, she says.

The reason for the uncertain forecast is that it may rain on Thursday, which would cause the temperature to drop before the temperature has time to rise up to 34 degrees.

– There will be no heat records now, but some very hot summer days are to be expected.

“Affects everyone”

Hundreds of deaths are reported in Spain and Portugal as a result of the heat wave, and in the UK, the country’s authorities have warned that the heat could mean “death and illness” for healthy people as well.

According to Anna Latvala, the situation is not as acute in Sweden.

– This heat wave will not be so long in Sweden, so the risk is lower. But when it suddenly gets this hot, it can affect people in risk groups. It can be some difficult days for them, says Anna Latvala.

She also advises young and healthy people not to play sports when the temperature is at its highest.

– This kind of heat affects everyone. When it is at its hottest, it pays to try to find a place to cool off.

MSB: Very high risk of forest fire

In southern Europe, forest fires have erupted in recent days, and also in Sweden warns MSB, the authority for civil protection and emergency preparednessfor “very high risk” of fire in certain areas.

Anna Latvala still downplays the risk of forest fires a little grand.

– There are fire alarms in some areas in Svealand and Götaland, but it still applies to fairly small areas.
