The Russian TV journalist who held up a live sign in protest of the invasion of Ukraine has been arrested, her lawyer announced.

A message on her account on the Telegram app says that it is unknown where she is.

The arrest comes just days after she alone demonstrated near the Kremlin with placards criticizing the invasion of Ukraine and President Vladimir Putin.

Marina Ovsjannikova became known all over the world when she stepped into the studio in March in the middle of a news broadcast on Russian state Channel 1 in Moscow. Behind the backs of her co-workers, she held up a sign with the text “Stop the war. Do not believe in propaganda. They’re lying to you. ”

She was arrested and sentenced to a fine. The Russian authorities have banned the media from describing the war in Ukraine in words such as “war”, “offensive” or “invasion”. Only official information from government sources may be reported.
