PROJECTED TEMPERATURES ‘EXCEPTIONAL’
In a statement made by the British Meteorological Office, it was announced that air temperatures are expected to reach record levels in some parts of the country on Monday and Tuesday. A “red alert” was issued due to dangerous weather conditions. It was stated that the alarm covers regions ranging from the capital London to Manchester and York. It was emphasized that temperatures are expected to reach 40 degrees for the first time, while predicted temperatures were described as “extraordinary”. It warned that extreme temperatures could affect infrastructure and lead to adverse health conditions. It was stated that the air temperatures next week are expected to exceed 38.7 degrees, which was recorded as the UK’s record temperature so far, at the Cambridge University Botanical Garden on 25 July 2019.
“A HISTORIC MOMENT”
Meteorological Office spokesman Grahame Madge described the high-temperature warning as “a potentially very serious situation”. Madge said it would be a “historic” moment for temperatures to reach 40 degrees on Monday and Tuesday. Madge also said, “If we reach 40 degrees, it shows that climate change is now with us. Situations like this are becoming much more likely due to climate change.”
