Ebba Årsjö was awarded the Victoria Prize.
Then she was shocked – by a greeting from Ingemar Stenmark himself.
– I would not have a chance, says Stenmark.
These were fantastic pictures that took place on Öland yesterday, when Crown Princess Victoria’s birthday was celebrated on Borgholm. The parade athlete Ebba Årsjö was also present, who received the Victoria Prize 2022.
Emotional on stage
Sweden’s greatest athletes have received the award, and yesterday it was Ebba Årsjö – as the first parade athlete ever – who got to step on stage. And those were strong images. Victoria was red, and Ebba Årsjö had a hard time holding back her tears.
Årsjö won two World Cup golds and double golds in the Paralympics earlier in the year, and when a tribute video about the star rolled while she was up on stage, tears came – both on stage.
– As you can see, I’m a little bloody of me. There is a lot of emotion as usual. It’s so big. When you get to see this video, it feels extra much.
Greetings from Stenis
But it did not end there. When Årsjö then stepped into SVT’s studio, a greeting came – from the alpine legends Pernilla Wiberg and Ingemar Stenmark.
– Congratulations, Ebba, on the Victoria Prize! Here are two who have also received it. It’s a long time, but it’s a nice price. Ebba, you are incredibly good at skiing, and I do not know if we would have any chance against her if we would line up today, says Wiberg, before she hands over the floor to Stenmark.
– No, not a chance. I have seen you go and it is very impressive, says Stenis.
Ebba Årsjö was completely shocked by the greeting and barely uttered a word. Once she opened her mouth, she only got out: “Ingemar Stenmark!”.
Talk about well-deserved. Congratulations, Ebba!
