Last minute Statements came one after another This time Italian

Breaking news… Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced that he would resign after the coalition partner, the 5 Star Movement, withdrew its support from the government.

The 5 Star Movement (M5S), one of the partners of the coalition government led by Prime Minister Mario Draghi, boycotted the parliamentary vote for the economic aid package prepared by the government.

“I WILL SUBMIT MY REQUEST”

After the boycott, Draghi announced that he would submit his resignation to President Sergio Mattarella in the following hours. “Tonight I will present my resignation to the president,” Draghi told the cabinet. “The national unity coalition that supports this government no longer exists,” he said.

APPROVAL FROM THE SENATE TO THE BOYCOTED AID PACKAGE

The economic aid package worth 23 billion euros, prepared by the government to combat the rising energy prices of the Ukraine-Russia War, was voted in the upper house of the parliament, the Senate.

M5S, one of the partners of the coalition government, boycotted the vote, arguing that the aid package was not enough. While 211 senators participated in the aid package vote, the aid package was approved by the Senate with 172 “Yes” votes against 39 “No” votes.

EARLY ELECTION IS AVAILABLE

Analysts argued that opposition to the aid package was a result of intra-party disagreements, not ideological. It was stated that the general elections planned to be held in Italy in June 2023 may be delayed after Draghi’s resignation.

REQUEST REJECTED

Italian President Sergio Mattarella has rejected Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s resignation.

JOHNSON’S POLITICAL FUTURE IS IN QUESTION

Johnson was under criticism and pressure to resign because of the holding of parties that violated the quarantine rules during the Kovid-19 outbreak in the Prime Minister’s Office Number 10.

Johnson, who was also fined for one of these parties, was accused of lying to parliament by some of his own party’s lawmakers and the opposition.

Within the Conservative Party, of which he was the leader, a vote of confidence was held on June 6, but Johnson won by 211 votes to 148.

Although Johnson won the confidence vote within the party, comments were made that Johnson’s political future was at stake.
