The last supermoon for this year did not only captivate Swedes when it rose above the horizon on Wednesday night. The pictures that illustrate this note show what it looked like in some other places in the world.
Near the horizon, the supermoon looks the largest. From the Earth’s point of view, the size difference between a supermoon and its opposite, a micromoon, is about 14 percent. The supermoon also shines 30 percent brighter.
The phenomenon is about a full moon that coincides with the celestial body hitting the point in its orbit that is closest to the earth.
This year, the night sky has been lit up by the supermoon twice, one in mid-June and then this week, July 13th.
