President Gotabaya Rajapaksa left the country after protests erupted in Sri Lanka after the economy collapsed. It has been reported that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who went to Maldives and then to Singapore, sent his resignation letter to the Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker via e-mail.

It is not yet clear whether the letter, sent shortly after Rajapaksa’s arrival in Singapore, will be accepted in email format. A source from the Speaker’s Office said that Rajapaksa’s resignation will be announced after the constitutionally mandated process is completed.

Tensions rose again in the country after Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed as the interim President for 30 days, and protesters stormed the Prime Minister’s office. It was announced that 1 person died and 84 people were injured during the demonstrations.
NEW PRESIDENT WILL BE ELECTED ON JULY 20
Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced that the parliament will meet again on July 15 and will elect the new head of state on July 20.
Abeywardena said, “The candidates for the next head of state will be presented to the parliament on July 19. On July 20, the parliament will vote to elect the new head of state. At the party leaders’ meeting held today, to ensure the formation of a new government consisting of all parties in line with the Constitution and to maintain basic services. It was agreed that this was necessary for the
