A 32-year-old man and a 23-year-old man, with a clear connection to one of the most influential criminal gangs in Helsingborg, were convicted in June this year of gross public destruction and gross violation of the law on flammable and explosive goods.
This is because he was behind the attack on the police station in Helsingborg in October 2017. The explosion was heard in several adjacent districts and caused major material damage to the police station. No one was injured despite 120 people being in or near the building.
The two convicted men are now appealing the verdict and want to be acquitted. On the other hand, they want shorter sentences, they announce through their lawyers.
Prosecutor: “Endangered life”
Prosecutor Peter Ståhl has also appealed the verdict.
“The blast caused very extensive material damage and endangered the lives of people staying nearby. Fortunately, no one was killed or physically injured as a result of the explosion, “he wrote in the appeal.
The prosecutor wants the men to receive harsher prison sentences.
– We think that it has a higher penalty value even when you consider previous convictions and the age of one man. Definitely more than seven years as the district court sentenced, says Peter Ståhl.
A man was freed
A third man was also charged with the act and was the one who was suspected of placing the bomb at the entrance, but he was acquitted as the evidence was not sufficient. The prosecutor has not appealed this.
– After reading the district court’s ruling, we have reasoned and accept that assessment. The district court did not think the evidence we relied on was sufficient and we accept that, says Peter Ståhl.
