De Vries is therefore proud of how quickly this shelter has come about. “It is unbelievable what resistance has been achieved here. Statenland had to be raised, the homes had to be connected to gas, water and electricity and sewerage had to be installed,” he says. And not only in Oudewater will Ukrainians be taken care of. “We have an official organization together with the municipality of Woerden. There will also be 150 refugees, so together almost 200. I am proud of that.”
