The Administrative Court handles more than 14,000 disputes as a result of short-term state aid paid to companies during the corona pandemic that would otherwise have had to lay off staff, according to a review by Swedish Radio Ekot.
Entrepreneurs overestimated their need for support
The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth has approved more than 100,000 applications and paid out a total of just over SEK 48 billion in short-term support.
However, 40 percent of all those who received money have become liable for repayment and the authority has so far demanded back six billion kronor.
The amount of recoveries is due to the fact that many entrepreneurs overestimated their need for support when applying, and since the legislation is new, there is also much that needs to be tried legally, according to the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth’s press officer.
