Isis planned to attack Europe with weapons of mass destruction

Isis was aided by a former engineer of Iraq’s chemical weapons program, who began manufacturing, among other things, mustard gas before he was assassinated by the United States and Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

The terrorist organization Isis planned to use weapons of mass destruction, especially in Western Europe, the Washington Post reported on Monday.

According to the news, the target would have been especially big cities and US military bases on the continent, or suitable military targets elsewhere.

– In the end, they intended to strike at the easiest target, an anonymous source interviewed by Posti said in an interview.

ISIS had the help of the former dictator of Iraq Saddam Hussein an engineer involved in the chemical weapons program Salih al-Sabawi.

According to Posti, Sabawin was recruited directly by the founder and first leader of Isis in the summer of 2014 Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Half a year later, Isis had already produced mustard gas and chlorine-loaded bombs and rockets under Sabawi’s leadership.

Mustard gas and chlorine are already deadly battle gases used in the First World War, but according to the Kurdish and US intelligence sources interviewed by the Post, the terrorist organization’s plans were more far-reaching.

The assassination stopped the show before it could properly begin

Sabawi’s title within ISIS was emir of chemical and biological weapons production, according to an Iraqi Kurdish intelligence report seen by the Washington Post. Sabawi manufactured chemical weapons in his laboratory in the premises of the newly captured Mosul University.

According to intelligence sources, his purpose was to manufacture the bacteria-based botulinum nerve agent as well as the toxic ricin, which, for example, the Soviet Union used in assassinations during the Cold War. The purpose was also to later prepare anthrax.

According to Posti’s sources, ISIS’ purpose was to accumulate massive stocks of these weapons of mass destruction to be used both on ISIS’ battlefronts and in terrorist attacks.

However, the plans were largely unrealized, as US special forces assassinated Sabawi in 2015 in cooperation with Kurdish peshmerga forces.
