4) Italy, 0, -4
France against Italy, a real nail-biter for those interested in football. Or maybe not.
Even before the last match in the first round of the European Football Championship reached half time, it was clear that there was a class difference between the two teams.
France started the scoring at New York Stadium in Rotherham in the ninth minute. Kadidiatou Diani got the ball and was able to get it into the box from his right wing. A bounce on an Italian leg later landed it on Grace Geyoro who could send in 1-0 unmarked.
Geyoro would succeed with the feat of making a real hat trick, because before the end of the half she had scored three of France’s five goals.
Her last came just before the break. Sandie Toletti posted a perfect post from the left that Geyoro could steer in with a wide side.
Italy gathered at the break and came out as a completely different team. But it took until the 76th minute before they managed to reduce.
After just three minutes on the pitch, Martina Piemonte reached Lisa Boattin’s post and nodded in 1-5, which was the final result of the match.
France are the favorites to win Group D and in a quarter final will in that case be opponents for the second in Sweden’s group.
