The Saudi tour wants ranking points

The Saudi-backed tour has submitted an application to be formally recognized by the world rankings when its board convenes for a meeting, writes The Guardian.

The players who have joined the tour should be worried about not being allowed to play major competitions due to poor ranking points after leaving the PGA and European tours for games in LIV.

The meeting includes representatives from all four major competitions as well as from the PGA and European tours.

The organizers of the LIV tour believe that they meet the requirements that can be set on a tour where the players get points for the world ranking. However, the tour has a different structure where fewer players, compared to the traditional tours, play fewer holes without a so-called cut, for more money.

The British Open, which starts on Thursday, has just like the US Open chosen to allow LIV players to participate in the competition. Greg Norman, who is the face of LIV, has, however, been informed by the organizer that he is not welcome to participate in the events organized for former champions of the competition.
