Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the triathlon last year had to be postponed and carried out in September. After the competition, many of the participants fell ill.
– It was investigated and it was difficult to say exactly what it was, but it was some form of winter vomiting that had spread somewhere, says Magnus Nyberg who is the competition leader for the triathlon in Jönköping.
Hear Magnus Nyberg tell more about the measures taken and the water samples in Munksjön in the clip above.
“Ironman tourists”
This year, the race could be completed as usual in July. The participants started with 1.9 kilometers of swimming in Munksjön, then they cycled 90 km east of Jönköping, then they came back to central Jönköping and ran a half marathon around Munksjön. That is, three laps. According to Magnus Nyberg, the participants represent over 40 nations.
Why does the race attract so many international exercisers?
– In Ironman, there are quite a few who go around. They are ironman tourists and go around to different competitions and get to come to different countries and cultures, says Magnus Nyberg.
