The 16 women prisoners in jihadist camps in Syria and repatriated by France on Tuesday July 4 have all been indicted and placed in pre-trial detention. With them, 35 minors locked up in these camps were also brought back to French territory. Among them, a teenager is also being prosecuted. Justice will have needed a few days. Now, the 16 women know the details of their indictment. All are charged with “criminal terrorist association”, some only for “child neglect”.
Because not all of his wives had left alone to fight for the Islamic State in Syria, sometimes the children accompanied their mothers. There were also births on the spot.
The repatriation organized this Tuesday is also exceptional. This is the first time that France has brought back so many children of suspected jihadists with their mothers. Until then, the state brought back minors locked up in these prison camps on a case-by-case basis, a practice much criticized by several human rights NGOs.

An 18 year old teenager in examination
Among these indicted women is Émilie König, a well-known French jihadist. She is on the UN’s most dangerous fighters blacklist. Justice has also indicted an 18-year-old teenager for criminal terrorist association.
One hundred and twenty women and nearly 290 children were detained in Syrian camps controlled by the Kurds before the repatriation on Tuesday, according to Laurent Nunez, the French coordinator of intelligence and the fight against terrorism.
