In Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo, hundreds of protesters have stormed the presidential palace. President Gotabaya Rajapaksas himself is said to have been taken to safety by his bodyguards.
The police have fired warning shots in order to disperse the protesters. There are no reports of deaths or injuries.
The protests are about the lack of food and fuel, and that inflation is skyrocketing – many have long blamed the crisis on Rajapaksas and demanded his resignation.
