Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) from The Big Bang Theory is a brilliant genius. When socializing with other people, however, he mostly behaves like an alien. It doesn’t help that he added a “Bazinga!” accompanied as an exclamation.
In case you were wondering where the term actually came from, we have two explanations for you.
The Big Bang Theory author used Bazinga first
As Screen Rant reports, the bazinga term came from Big Bang Theory producer and screenwriter Stephen Engel. He always used the word as Substitute for “Got you!” in a joke, for which he repeatedly placed a half-eaten grapefruit glued back together in the authors’ workroom.

At some point, the exclamation was so well known among the crew that it was spontaneously used for the Season 2 finale scripted for Sheldon and became a cult running gag.
The Big Bang Theory offshoot Young Sheldon reveals origins of Bazinga
In terms of content, there was also an explanation of the origin of Sheldon’s Bazinga in The Big Bang Theory. In episode 10 of the 2nd season of the spin-off Young Sheldon, the character becomes once again bullied. He then goes to the comic book store to get ideas for jokes.
Here he bumps up Joke items from the Bazinga Novelty Company with the slogan: “If it’s funny, it’s a Bazinga!”. At that moment, the word was born that Sheldon will later use again and again to draw attention to jokes made by himself.
