EM, 8 July
What happens?
Group B
18.00: Spain – Finland, Stadium MK, Milton Keynes. TV4.
21.00: Germany – Denmark, Brentford Community Stadium, London. SVT.
Question mark 1: How strong is Spain?
Barcelona midfielder Alexia Putellas, last autumn named the world’s best player – seriously injured in training the other day and misses the entire European Championship. With Putellas in the team, Spain was seen as a clear gold candidate, without her as game conductor, the team’s status is more unclear. We get the first indication of how good Spain actually is in the match against Finland, which is led by the Swedish national team captain Anna Signeul.
Question mark 2: How good is Germany?
A couple of years ago, it seemed like Germany could do nothing but win. The Germans won eight of nine European Championship finals between 1989 and 2013, and often crushed Sweden’s chances along the way. But in recent years, something has happened. At the European Championships last, 2017, the team only reached the quarterfinals. In a difficult group, not everyone now even expects the Germans to move on. Skrälläge for Denmark, as with the fixed star Pernille Harder in the team, can get a superstart on the tournament.
It happens in the Swedish camp
Sweden is doing its last training before the premiere match against the Netherlands. During the day, the team moves from its European Championship base outside Chester to the match arena Bramall lane in Sheffield. Press conference with national team captain Peter Gerhardsson and team captain Caroline Seger in the evening.
