San Jose Sharks scout found dead ahead of NHL draft

Ahead of Thursday night’s NHL draft, Marchment, 53, has died on the spot in Montreal, where the draft is taking place. He would have attended the draft for the San Jose Sharks in his role as scout.

Marchment himself played 17 seasons in the NHL between 1989–2006, including Chicago and San Jose, and played a total of 926 NHL games.

He has a son in the NHL, Mason Marchment, who plays forward in the Florida Panthers.

– It is a tragic day for me and the whole organization. Everyone who knew Brian knew what kind of man he was, said Mike Grier, general manager of San Jose.

The cause of death has not yet been determined.
