More people are joining all over the Netherlands. In most municipalities in the province of Utrecht the number of inhabitants is growing, but nowhere as much as in the municipality of Utrecht. In thirteen years there will probably be 18.9 million people in the Netherlands, 1.3 million more than now. This mainly means that cities in the Randstad, such as Utrecht, are growing. The capital Amsterdam, for example, will probably have an additional 175,000 inhabitants in 2035 and will become a city with 1 million inhabitants in 2030. There is also shrinkage, especially in the northeast of Groningen, Drenthe, the Achterhoek and Limburg.
