In the chaos that broke out in connection with the right-wing extremist Rasmus Paludan’s demonstration in Sveaparken in Örebro on Good Friday, the police fired several warning shots.
As a result of the warning shots, an investigation was started regarding the police’s actions. Now the investigation is closed and it is clear that the police did not make a mistake that fired warning shots but were entitled to emergency defense, reports SVT Nyheter Örebro.
At least nine police officers were injured in the riots and several police cars were set on fire.
– The police have the right to use force with the support of law and the violence directed at the police in this case has been so serious that they have the right to defend themselves with self-defense. I have judged that there is an emergency right, they have the right to defend themselves from being attacked with deadly force, says Per Nichols, chief prosecutor at the special prosecutor’s office, to SVT.
