A new hot summer in Greece and helicopters and firefighters are working around the clock to fight the violent grass and forest fire that broke out near the town of Dilesi, a resort 50 km north of Athens.
Authorities have urged residents of Dilesi to evacuate, and residents of several villages in the southern Peloponnese peninsula have been forced to leave their homes.
– Considering last year and climate change, colleagues from six European countries are here, says rescue leader Vasileos Bikas.
Despite the help from other EU countries, there is dissatisfaction among the Greeks themselves that the government has not taken more preventive measures.
