Soon time for the World Cup.
Then Armand Duplantis chooses to recharge – with training in his parents’ garden.
– It can not get better, says his manager to SVT.
Armand Duplantis has an almost rare ability to dot the form exactly right, and this year’s season does not seem to be an exception. In just a few weeks, he will compete in this year’s outdoor WC in the USA, and before that he has written history again.
Unexpected layout
Duplantis is the pole vaulter who by far the most times jumped over six meters, and when he competed in Stockholm last week, he jumped higher than anyone else previously done outdoors. He had the previous record of 6.15 – but increased it by another centimeter during the Bauhaus gala at Stockholm Stadium.
On July 23, he qualifies for a final place in this year’s WC, and two days later, on July 25, the final takes place, where Duplantis is guaranteed to have a place. But Duplantis, on the other hand, goes against its rivals when it comes to layouts. There will be no training in fresh arenas or facilities.
“It can not get better”
Instead, he chooses to train at his own pole vault facility in his parents’ home in Louisiana, according to SVT.
– He will get around two weeks when he trains at his old university and has mom and dad with him (Helena and Greg also train their son) and a couple of days before the qualifiers they fly to Oregon. It can not get better, says his manager, Daniel Wessfeldt.
The competitions in the USA are outdoors, and should it be possible for Duplantis to increase his own outdoor record, Wessfeldt believes that he will instead bet on the official world record.
– I hope for the total record 6.21 and gold, says Wessfeldt.
