On the occasion of International Yoga Day, which takes place this Tuesday, June 21, focus on “Warrior Yoga”. Created in 2018 in Los Angeles, this very sporty variant of yoga allows you to “get out of your comfort zone”, as Alison Cossenet, who teaches this discipline in Paris, explains to us.
“Warrior yoga is a mix of all types of yoga that exist“, summarizes Alison Cossenet, Warrior Yoga teacher for Yoga Room Paris. Developed by Aria Crescendo in 2018, this method uses classic yoga postures, such as inversions or the sun salutation, but links them in a very dynamic way. “It’s physically impressive“, announces the teacher. It is an active yoga, with a basis of cardio.
During his lesson, which lasts 1h30, the students follow the postures to the rhythm of the music. The practice includes cult yoga poses such as downward facing dog. Very present during the warm-up, it strengthens the arms, wrists, shoulders and lower back. Chaturanga push-ups, as well as warrior postures, allow you to work the whole body. “We quickly exceed our limits and we are surprised to go so far so quickly. At the end of the session, you feel stronger“, explains Alison Cossenet
At the level of breathing, the young woman teaches breathing “Ujjayi”, “victorious” in Sanskrit. The tone is set. To do this, the teacher asks her students to breathe only through their noses, “as if we wanted to fog up a window, except that we close our mouths“. This dynamic breathing activates the inner energy.”She invites you to stand straight, to open the rib cage“, describes the specialist.
With regular practice, two to three times a week, practitioners gain flexibility, strengthen their backs, arms and legs. The young woman notices that over the months her students have less back pain and adopt a better posture.
