19-year-old Evan “Cented” Barron had made it to the pro in the online shooter Fortnite. He has been playing for the world’s largest esports organization, the “FaZe” clan, since 2021 and had already collected over $300,000 in prize money. A clip that surfaced on Twitch ended his career immediately. His clan no longer gives second chances.

This was his undoing now: Cented joined a voice chat and greeted a friend there with a racist term, the “N” word.
The friend didn’t take it too badly, just pointed out, “Uhm – I’m live.”
Because the friend had his twitch stream running and the greeting, which was apparently only intended privately, went out to everyone.

FaZe Fires 19-Year-Old – Says It “No Longer Tolerates”
This is how his clan reacted: FaZe Clan has permanently fired the player, effective immediately. The reason given is “hate speech”.
It is said that the club is always evolving and expects the same from its members. FaZe and the gaming community “could no longer” tolerate such discriminatory language (via twitter).
This is behind it: FaZe shows a new hardness here. Another Fortnite player, “Dubs” (16 at the time), was only suspended two years ago for the same offense and given “sensitive language training”.
The 19-year-old is now dealt with much more harshly.
This could be because FaZe has now positioned itself differently and is planning an IPO.
It could also be that an example is set now that Fortnie isn’t so hyped anymore.
Or there really has been a deep rethinking in the organization.

The 19-year-old explains: “Somewhere between 2021 and 2022 he lost his way, his ego was suddenly big and he went from being a ‘nice boy cented’ to one who made many enemies and who in anger tweeted things he should have held back.
Somewhere at the peak of his success he lost himself.
He just said something for the “shock factor” – something he should never have said. I’m sorry.
