The Steam Summer Sale only runs for a few days. MeinMMO gives you some tips for co-op games that you can still get even with little money and that are absolutely worthwhile.

What are these games? Here we present games of different genres, all of which can be played in co-op with at least one friend.

We have already shown you one of the best co-op games in the Steam Summer Sale. The special thing about these is that you can get them for less than €6, sometimes even significantly less.

The Steam Summer Sale has been running since June 23rd and ends on July 7th. So you only have a short amount of time to secure the games.

The list includes some of the best rated co-op games on Steam, but the author can personally recommend them all. However, it is not a ranking, but an unordered list.

Top 25 best co-op games of 2022 for PC, PS5, Xbox and Switch – WE have chosen

The Forest

Genre: Survival/Sandbox | release: May 30, 2014 | Rating(Steam): 95% – extremely positive | Player: 1-8 | Price: €4.19 (75% discount) | Link: The Forest on Steam

The Forest is a classic survival game and one of the best survival games for PC, Xbox and PlayStation. Alone or with up to 7 other players you have to fight your way through a dangerous world.

You start without any tools after a plane crash on an island full of cannibals and strange mutants. On the search for your son, you must uncover mysteries and, above all, survive.

The game features an oppressive atmosphere, crafting and building elements, and various endings in the story. It is played in longer but closed sessions rather than in a continuous game.

The offer from The Forest is ideal to prepare you for the release of the upcoming sequel. Read everything about Sons of the Forest in our special and see gameplay for the new part here:

Don’t Starve Together

Genre: Survival/Sandbox | release: April 21, 2016 | Rating(Steam): 96% – extremely positive | Player: 1-6 | Price: €5.09 (66% discount) | Link: Don’t Starve Together on Steam

In the survival game Don’t Starve you are kidnapped into a strange world and you have to survive. As the name suggests, you mainly fight against hunger, but also against madness and countless monsters.

The world is procedurally generated and offers different biomes with material for crafting and building your own base. Don’t Starve Together is the multiplayer offshoot of the popular survival game and is constantly receiving new content updates.

The special features include the hand-drawn world and the background music. All characters are “voiced” by instruments, which gives the game a unique charm.

If you don’t like the somewhat idiosyncratic look, there is currently a strong alternative in the summer sale: Empyrion is 81% positive on Steam and offers survival in space.

portal 2

Genre: Puzzle platformer/adventure | release: April 19, 2011 | Rating(Steam): 98% – extremely positive | Player: 1-2 | Price: €1.63 (80% discount) | Link: Portal 2 on Steam

If the embedded review video doesn’t play for you, you can find it here on YouTube:

Portal 2 is probably one of the most famous co-op games. You play one of two robots that have to solve various puzzles and levels with their “portal guns”. All this is spiced up with a good portion of dark humor and dystopian visions of the future.

To do this, you create portals in the world. The portals connect two places with each other and you have to use them to bring objects or yourself to otherwise inaccessible parts of the level or even to catapult yourself.

Physics is an important factor in the game, because sometimes you need to fall into a portal with enough momentum to reach another location at the right angle. Ideal if you like riddles.

Portal 2 is the sequel to the physics-based puzzle game Portal, which even inspired the wacky shooter Splitgate. Portal is also responsible for some memes like: “The cake is a lie”.

PayDay 2

Genre: Action/Heist | release: August 13, 2013 | Rating(Steam): 89% – very positive | Player: 1-4 | Price: €0.99 (90% discount) | Link: PayDay 2 on Steam

If the heists in GTA Online are not enough for you, you should check out Payday 2. Together with up to 3 other players you have to plan a raid and plunder a well-secured bank.

Agreement and timing are important here, because of course you don’t want the police to stop you. A getaway car and specialists to pick the locks are just as important as someone who can disable the alarm.

See the test of PayDay 2 by the GameStar colleagues here:

Payday 2 is considered a fairly demanding co-op game. Expect to have to repeat the missions multiple times to win them. After all, a bank room should not be a walk in the park.

If you are interested in the gameplay but are looking for a different setting, check out GTFO. Some former Payday developers are working on a crazy alien shooter here. GTFO is also on sale for €29.99 until July 7th (via Steam).

terraria

Genre: Sandbox/Survival | release: May 16, 2011 | Rating(Steam): 98% – extremely positive | Player: 1-16 | Price: €4.99 (50% discount) | Link: Terraria on Steam

Put simply, Terraria can be described as 2D Minecraft. In a huge world you search for valuable materials, build your own home and equipment. To do this, you have to keep defending your home against waves of enemies and even huge bosses.

Check out the trailer for Journey’s End, the penultimate update, here:

The survival sandbox game plays with your urge to explore and pushes you to go deeper and deeper into the world and discover new areas. In addition, NPCs can always appear who can sell you useful items if you house them.

Terraria not only offers a co-op mode, but also PvP. If you want, you can fight with your friends for dominance of your world instead of peacefully exploring and building together.

Bonus: Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition

Genre: Tactical RPG | release: September 14, 2017 | Rating(Steam): 95% – extremely positive | Player: 1-4 | Price: €17.99 (60% discount) | Link: Divinity: Original Sin 2 on Steam

Although Divinity: Original Sin 2 is slightly more expensive than the games featured here, it still deserves a mention. After all, it’s one of our top 25 co-op games. The story-driven role-playing game is strongly based on Dungeons & Dragons.

Your group consists of up to 4 characters with different classes. The special feature of the game is the turn-based combat system. You don’t fight “live” against your opponents, you plan your move. Moves, spells and attacks are limited by points and an initiative determines the order of the fighters. This is where the tactical factor comes in.

These are the Enhanced Edition improvements:

Divinity: Original Sin 2 impresses above all with stories. Each companion has their own story and drive. If you don’t play in a full player group, the NPCs can even be partially won as a romance.

Incidentally, the developers are already working on the next title in a similar style: Baldur’s Gate 3, which even has an official D&D license:

Heck, Baldur’s Gate 3’s multiplayer is really good!
