Several regions are now sounding the alarm about increased covid infection. In the Stockholm Region, there is concern about a major impact on healthcare if the increase continues.
The number of cases of covid-19 continued to increase in Sweden during week 25 and the increase is expected to continue. This is announced by the Swedish Public Health Agency. A subgroup of the omicron virus variant, BA.5, is now dominant in the spread of infection.
34 percent increase
In the Stockholm Region, development is going in the wrong direction. A total of 164 patients with covid-19 are cared for at one of the region’s hospitals. That is 42 more than what was reported last Tuesday.
– If the increase in the number of patients at our hospitals with covid-19 continues in the coming weeks, it will be very troublesome for summer healthcare, says chief physician Patrik Söderberg.
