That Sergio Peña beautifully bent his first goal in the Malmö shirt after seven minutes of play played less of a role for MFF this evening.
Because this was Gif Sundsvall’s night – and they had the margins with them.
MFF had no less than three frame hits in the first half, but despite that it was the “Giffars” who stepped off the field with a 2-1 lead after the first half.
Unlike Peñas beautiful 1-0 goal was Ronaldo Damu’s equalizer after 14 minutes nonetheless beautiful.
Pontus Engblom came free and tried to lob over Johan Dahlin in the MFF goal from close range and the lob succeeded, but before the ball went over the goal line Matej Chalus got there to clear away.
The only problem was that Chalus cleared Damus’ head right and it was 1-1.
– My job is to score goals, Damus stated to Discovery + after the first half.
And before the half was over, it was 2-1 to the home team, signed Daniel Stensson.
As if that were not enough, Malmö’s Søren Rieks was also forced to leave the pitch injured just before half time.
MFF’s game and chance advantage continued even more in the second half, but the ball did not want to pass Andreas Andersson between “Giffarnas” posts – where Sundsvall’s goalkeeper was responsible for most of the sharp saves.
Sundsvall – and Andersson – resisted, did not concede any more goals and took a heavy 2-1 victory at home.
The victory took “Giffarna” to the qualifiers in the table, two points ahead of Degerfors and four ahead of Helsingborgs IF.
For MFF, it was costly points that disappeared. Skåningar is still fifth in the table, three points behind league leader Häcken who also has two games less played.
