The parents of a little boy chose Duck as their middle name. At first surprised, the registrar finally validated this choice, rather touched by his story.
Duck is the middle name attributed to a little boy born in August 2021 in Dordogne, in Périgord. But why did his parents decide to call him Dyklan, Canard, Bret? Initially, this unusual first name surprises the registrar, who may decide to refuse the choice of a first name if he judges that it goes against the best interests of the child. But he was convinced by the rather touching family story. “We wanted to pay tribute to my mother Georgette, whose last name was Canard, because she died two years ago and she has a very special story.“, tells BFMTV the baby’s grandfather, Jean-Christophe Bret Canard. His mother was in fact “war orphan”. “In 1943, it was abandoned on the forecourt of the church of Châtellerault (Vienne) because it came from the community of Travelers. It was then recovered by the DDASS, then was adopted seven months later by a man named Georges Canard, a French soldier who then worked in the railways and who was engaged in the resistance “.
To pay homage to his grandmother, his last name was then assigned as a middle name, to perpetuate his story over the generations. And to silence the comments, the grandfather specifies that in the middle name, the little boy is not likely to be laughed at, since he “will not use it on a daily basis”. Besides, “my four sons all have ‘Duck’ as their middle name and that never prejudiced them” adds the grandpa.
