A Mexican journalist has been shot dead in the violence-ravaged northeastern state of Tamaulipas, according to the newspaper Expreso on which he worked.
Antonio de la Cruz is the twelfth journalist so far this year to be murdered in Mexico. During the attack in the city of Victoria, his wife was also shot in the head, while his daughter was injured.
Mexico is one of the world’s most dangerous countries for journalists and over 150 journalists have been murdered since 2000.
The victims are often journalists working for local media in states plagued by cartel-related violence.
