Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman have prepared a thunderous Brest adventure for Return to Monkey Island. The cult saga is back, and will be released on Steam and Switch later in 2022.

The now famous Guybrush Treepwood is making a comeback in 2022 thanks to its creator, Ron Gilbert, who has partnered with Lucasfilm Games and Devolver Digital to revive the famous Monkey Islands franchise. In Return to Monkey Islands, our famous, pristine-haired adventurer returns to the sinister Monkey Island, once again in search of hidden treasures and unsolved mysteries. It was at the Nintendo Direct Mini in June 2022 that we were able to see the first gameplay images of this point-n-click cartoon which is likely to storm the consoles and PCs of young people in their thirties. Images that reminded us of the charm and humor of Ron Gilbert’s creations, and of course piqued the vein of nostalgia in young thirtysomethings.

This quirky trailer is not stingy with information. We find some well-known names in the announcements of the casting of this next release. Beyond Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman at the controls, the game’s soundtrack will once again be composed by Michael Land, accompanied by Peter McConnel and Clint Bajakian. The other good news for our English-speaking friends is that Dominic Armato is making a comeback as the voice of Guybrush Treepwood. The game even has its own website, for the moment quite limited in its content. As for the release date of Return to Monkey Island, no other information than the mention of the year 2022.

Of course, for this narrative adventure game, Devolver Digital offered us a synopsis: “It has been many years since Guybrush Threepwood and his lifelong enemy the zombie pirate LeChuck have clashed in arms and in wits. one and only love, Elaine Marley, has turned away from her political responsibilities, and Guybrush himself seems adrift, dissatisfied, having never been able to solve Monkey Island’s true secret. Madison toppled the old guard from their positions of power, Melee Island turned for the worse, and famed businessman Stan was jailed for ‘crimes related to marketing.'”
What is the release date for Return to Monkey Island?
In addition to the people working on the development of this future masterpiece (we hope), it is also important to know its release date. Well know that the Nintendo Direct Mini in June brought us answers in this area. The game will be released at the end of 2022 on consoles and PC, with priority for controller players. The Nintendo Switch has of course been announced as one of the game’s platforms, with a priority release on keyboard / mouse players, while the game will also be available on Steam. Mentions of Xbox and Playstation consoles have yet to be heard.
