There, it’s done ! Top Gun Maverick just surpassed $1 billion at the worldwide box office just one month after its release. It is quite simply the first Tom Cruise film to exceed this historic threshold, since its record was Mission Impossible Fallout and its 791 million dollars in 2018. This exceptional trajectory does not seem ready to stop as the film enjoys positive word-of-mouth, spectators being amazed by the real performances of Tom Cruise and the actors who accompany him, at the controls of real fighter planes. Where Top Gun Maverick surprises his world is that the fill manages to outrun Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, he who has not yet reached the billion mark (945 million dollars on the final date of June 23) and which seems to run out of steam at the end. Since the end of the pandemic, the only film to have achieved such a feat is none other than Spider-Man No Way Home, which has also accumulated 1.9 billion dollars and risks doing more for the film’s release next September in its long version.
In France, Top Gun Maverick is also a big hit since the film has exceeded 4 million admissions (4,140,000 to be exact) and is therefore one of Paramont’s biggest successes in recent years. Tom Cruise and his realistic stunts have become bankable like never before and we imagine that Paramount risks taking care of the release of Mission Impossible 7 next September.
