The festival of speed of Goodwood which was held last weekend in Sussex in the United Kingdom, saw a 23-year-old record fall. During the famous hill climb of this event taken by motor sports enthusiasts, the McMurtry Speirlingan electric hypercar that looks like a batmobile, smashed the time of 41.6 seconds set in 1999 by German driver Nick Heidfeld at the wheel of the Formula 1 McLaren MP4-13. Driven by Max Chilton, the McMurtry Spéirling swallowed the track in 39.08 seconds.

This electric hypercar was presented at the 2021 edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It is a very compact single-seater (3.5 m long and 1.7 m wide) which announces less than 1,000 kg on the scale and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 1.5 seconds.

The British startup McMurtry Automotive does not communicate much about the technical details of its racing car apart from the presence of two electric fans that suck theair under the car to generate downforce equivalent to 2,000 kg when stationary and 2,250 kg at 240 km/h. On its site, the manufacturer evokes a version approved for the road which would offer up to 480 km ofautonomy but gives neither price nor date of availability.
