Four Swedes have become seven.
Daniel Alfredsson has finally been elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame – together with the Sedin brothers.
– I did not think I would get the call, says Alfie.

Daniel Alfredsson has for several years been available to be elected into hockey’s absolute fine room, the Hall of Fame. But year after year, he has been nobbed, and many had almost begun to give up hope that the Ottawa Senators icon would even get in – ever.

Finally elected

But before this year’s ceremony, a real campaign was made in Ottawa to get the Swede involved, and several NHL stars – including Erik Karlsson – went out on social media with supportive words about the Swedish legend. And last night it finally happened.

Previously, only Börje Salming, Mats Sundin, Nicklas Lidström and Peter Forsberg were elected Swedes to the Hall of Fame, but last night the quartet was joined by Daniel Alfredsson.

– I honestly did not think I would get the call and be elected, says Alfredsson about the honorable appointment.

But not enough. Before the evening was over, the twins Henrik and Daniel Sedin were also chosen. It was the first year that the Vancouver icons could be chosen, and they were selected immediately.

– Our goal was to always be the best players we could be, and I think we helped each other to be that. Every day I tried to defeat Henrik, and it has been going on since we were children, says Daniel Sedin.

The fourth male player to be selected was Roberto Luongo, who for many years was a goalkeeper in the Vancouver Canucks, ie at the same time as Henrik and Daniel Sedin.
