In the incident that took place near the city of Mendon in the US state of Missouri, the train from Los Angeles to Chicago and containing 243 passengers and 12 staff collided with a truck at the level crossing. Officials said that as a result of the collision, 2 locomotives and 8 passenger wagons on the train derailed.
AT LEAST 50 INJURED
Missouri State Highway Police said three people were killed in the crash. The US National Railroad Company (Amtrak), on the other hand, did not give information about the number of injured people, while explaining that there were injured people as well as those killed in the incident. While eyewitnesses stated that some passengers were bleeding, the US press reported that at least 50 people were injured in the accident. According to a hospital staff, 3 people were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Missouri State Governor Mike Parson expressed his sadness about the incident in a statement on his official social media account, while State Public Safety officials announced that the Highway Police and other emergency teams responded to the incident.
