The alarm came at 18:30 on Monday evening, when a column of smoke was aimed from Lokberget, in Ånge municipality, near the county border mother Jämtland.
The remote location has made it difficult for the rescue service to get there quickly.
– Now we are on site with a single car but it was 90 minutes drive from the nearest station, says Lars Krantz, internal commander of the rescue service, at 20:30.
Helicopter called
Several authorities have gone out and warned of the heat and drought – and now the rescue service expects that the extinguishing work will take time.
– It can take days before this is ready, it is incredibly dry in the surface layer. The top layer is very dry, says Lars Krantz.
– The assessment now is that the majority of the fire is on the Jämtland side.
There is currently no information on affected people. Helicopters have been ordered to assist with the extinguishing work from the air.
The initial assessment is that about 2.5 hectares are burning. But considering that this is a slope, the spread can go extra fast, says Lars Krantz, internal commander of the rescue service.
