Gabriel Landeskog is Stanley Cup champion.
And his revelation after the match only makes everything EVEN more powerful.
It’s been a long season, but last night the Colorado Avalanche was the Stanley Cup champion. They had the chance to secure the title already on Friday, but then lost the home game in Colorado, the fifth in the series.
Got to lift the dent
Tampa Bay Lightning has played three straight Stanley Cup finals, winning two of them, and can never be counted out, and since they also had home ice in the sixth final, it was far from certain that there would be any Avs celebration, but then it became so.
Gabriel Landeskog was noted for an assist in the match that Colorado won 2-1, and as team captain he was the one who had the honor of lifting the Stanley Cup dent first of all after the win. Landeskog has been team captain in Colorado for 10 (!) Years – he already did so as a 19-year-old – which only makes the win even more powerful. But there is one more thing that makes it all the more powerful.
Mighty revelation
Afterwards, he told what was sitting on the wall in his children’s room – and then the whole hockey world gets goosebumps.
– I grew up and had a poster in my bedroom, the Colorado Avalanche 2001 team that won. My dream has always been to be in that picture, and sit next to the Stanley Cup trophy and wear this shirt on me, he says in a clip on Sportbladet’s Instagram.
It was a touched Landeskog after the match.
– I do not understand that we have just done it. That’s crazy. Now for the last six or seven weeks, the only thing that comes to mind is when you put your head on the pillow. One has not dared to think too much. It’s such a wonderful feeling, so it’s hard to describe.
