Over the weekend, “Maverick” even flew past the milestone of a billion dollars in movie revenue – just the second movie to do so since the outbreak of the pandemic. Even more striking is that the film reached that milestone without having gone up in either China or Russia.
According to the film company Paramount, the continued success at the cinema one month after the premiere can partly be explained by a large number of returning cinema visitors.
In “Maverick”, Tom Cruise returns to the role of the cocky fighter pilot he played in 1986. In the sequel, old “Top gun” stars such as Val Kilmer also return.
