Djokovic has won 20 Gran Slam titles and will start his hunt for Rafael Nadal’s 22 on Monday when Wimbledon starts. But it may be the last major of the year for the Serb as a vaccine passport is required to enter the United States, something the 35-year-old does not have when he refuses to be vaccinated.
– As it looks today, I am not welcome to the United States, Djokovic says according to Eurosport.
The US Open starts on August 29, so there is time for Djokovic to change, but he does not seem to do so.
– There is not much I can do anymore. It is up to the US government to choose whether or not to admit the unvaccinated.
Earlier this year, he missed the hugely controversial Australian Open. Djokovic was in Australia to play the tournament but was expelled from the country after a lawsuit that went all the way to court.
In France and England, vaccine passes are not required, which meant that Djokovic could play the French championships (out in the quarter-finals) and will play Wimbledon.
