Coming to Netflix soon: That’s what The Finals Girls is all about

In The Final Girls, a group of young people (Vikings star Alexander Ludwig, among others) crosses the threshold between film and reality. They actually fall into a typical 70’s/80’s slasher. That’s not only insanely entertainingbut in the end even surprisingly visually stunning, poetic and touching.

On Netflix: That’s why The Finals Girls is worth it

There are many excellent ones meta horror movies, which reference the slasher trends of the 70’s and 90’s, meaning everything between Friday the 13th and Scream! Tucker and Dale vs. Evil and Cabin in the Woods, for example.

These movies tend to be insanely entertaining because they clichés and stereotypes put it in context or look at it from an unfamiliar perspective. So does The Finals Girls, but at the same time director Todd Strauss-Schulson uses the approach to take his story to a high emotional level. The Final Girls is horror, comedy and family drama rolled into one.

He weaves a bloodcurdling, sad mother-daughter story into his genre deconstruction. Amanda (Malin Akerman), who played the scream queen in a cult slasher, dies unexpectedly. Max (Taissa Farmiga) bursts through the big screen in a re-enactment and meets her mother’s film self.

In the finale, realities meet like two seas, resulting in images more beautiful than any sunrise. You should definitely not miss this film.
