Several Helmare players will also be seen in the Women’s Champions League qualifiers. In the qualifying round, Emmi Alanen’s Kristianstad will face Ajax.
Kuopio Palloseura will receive Lithuanian Gintra in the first qualifying round of the Women’s Champions League. The initial qualifiers were drawn on Friday in Switzerland.
KuPS, the first time in the Women’s Champions League, will play in the same block with Gintra, Anderlecht of Belgium and Lodz of Poland.
The Gintra – KuPS and Anderlecht – Lodz matches will be played in the semi-finals of the qualifying tournament. The winners of the matches will advance to the finals final on August 21st and the losers to the bronze medal. The winner of the final will advance to the next qualifying round, which will be played in September.
Founded in 1999, Gintra is the most successful women’s team in Lithuania, winning the country’s series 20 times. The team was first seen in the Women’s Champions League in 2004. The team has participated in the Champions League qualifiers at least 17 times.
This season, Gintra leads the country’s main league by a landslide and has won nine of ten matches. The team plays numerous foreign reinforcements.
The imprint of KuPS, the reigning champion of the National League, on domestic fields has also been overwhelming. The team has won twelve of the thirteen matches they played and lost only once. The Goofy team has scored 54 goals, or an average of more than four in each match. Own has played only eight times.
The day of the semi-finals will be on August 18th and the final on August 21st.
The Women’s Champions League used to be played as a simple playoff tournament. Last season, the group stage of 16 teams was played for the first time.
The Finnish teams in the women’s Champions League follow-up games have seen FC Honka for the last time, advancing to the first playoff round of 32 teams in 2018.
Midfielder in Helmare Emmi Alasen Kristianstad, represented by Kristianstad, will face Dutch giant Ajax in the early qualifying round. If Kristianstad reaches the qualifying final, the opponent will not be relieved, as the winner of the match will be Fortuna Hjörring – Eintracht Frankfurt.
Ria Ölingin represented by FC Rosengård will advance directly to the second round, as will Sanni Franssin to represent Real Sociedad.
Last season’s winners of the French, Spanish, German and English leagues, Lyon, Barcelona, Wolfsburg and Chelsea, will advance straight to the group stage starting in October. The final will be played in June in the Netherlands at PSV Stadium.
Lyon is the reigning champion of the Champions League. It defeated Barcelona 3-1 in the final in May.
