Done: Despite the criticism – the county administrative board stops nature reserves in Garphyttan

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

Garphytteklint is a forest area located in Garphyttan, north of Örebro. Here, the landowner has applied for felling of forest, due to problems with bark beetles.

But, in addition to the spruce bark beetle, there are also several protected species in the area, something that has contributed to a growing commitment to the forest. At the time of writing, more than 800 signatures have been collected digitally.

– There must be protection of the area, otherwise it is a disaster, says Lotta Sörman in the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation’s forest group.

The decision to grant or refuse a permit for felling lies with the Swedish Forest Agency, but the county administrative board has already decided not to make the area a nature reserve.

– We wished we could reach an agreement with the landowner, but we did not, says Johan Karlhager, unit manager at the county administrative board.
